According to the latest update from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, there have been enough petitions to reach the congressionally mandated 65,000 H-1B visa regular cap and the 20,000 H-1B visa U.S. advanced degree exemption, known as the master’s cap, for fiscal year 2027.
With the cap filled, there will not be a second round, and employers and foreign workers will need to wait until next year’s registration period.
Alternatives to the H-1B lottery
While the H-1B cap has been filled, cap-exempt petitions are still available for qualifying organizations. Additionally, the following alternatives should be considered based on your circumstances:
- O-1 Visa
- L-1 Visa
- TN visa is for Canadian and Mexican citizens
- Investor Visa (E-2, E-3)
- Employment-based green cards.
It is advised to speak with a qualified immigration attorney to learn about your options.
