What is the L-1 Visa?

The L-1 visa permits multinational companies to transfer employees in an executive or managerial capacity from a qualified foreign office to a U.S. branch/affiliate to take up a key role in the U.S.-based organization.

L-1 employees have significant decision-making or supervisory functions and may be sent to the United States to open a new office on behalf of the company.

What is the L-1 Visa Validity Period?

L-1A (managers/executives) visa holders have an initial validity period of three years, but with extensions, can stay in the US for a maximum of 7 years.

Can I Bring Dependents?

  • Spouse and children under the age of 21 can accompany you or join you later
  • Dependents are subject to the same period of admission as you.
  • Work authorization for spouses incident to status.

What Is the Cost?

  •  I-129 basic filing fee: $1,385

What Are The Requirements of the L-1 Visa?

To qualify for the L-1 visa, both the employer and beneficiary must meet several requirements set out by USCIS.

The employee has been working for the organization for one continuous year within the three years immediately preceding their admission to the United States.

The employee must be seeking to enter the United States to provide services in an executive or managerial capacity.

The U.S.-based company must have a qualifying relationship with a foreign company (parent company, branch, subsidiary, or affiliate).

The company must be active in both the United States and at least one other country for the entire time the employee is in the U.S. on their L-1 visa.
