Background
Medical breakthroughs do not happen every day, but our client, Liam, is leading the way in full-body X-ray imaging for trauma and forensic pathology centers. His company produces X-ray images up to 6 feet in less than 15 seconds, while using minimal radiation. This success is attributed to the parent company in South Africa. Initially, their X-ray technology was designed to detect stolen diamonds in the region’s mining industry, but engineers soon realized it had the ability to assist in the medical world.
Immediately, the company shifted its focus to medical innovation, securing clearance and adjusting components of the machinery to cater to medical purposes. After years of development and collecting enough funding, the company was ready to branch out of South Africa and expand its operations into the U.S.
VisaNation Case Strategy
Liam’s expertise positioned him as the ideal candidate to launch the U.S. expansion. He would work in this new position for a temporary period of three years as an Inventory Management/Field Service Technician. To qualify for this intracompany transferee executive role, it is critical that you:
- Demonstrate that you are in a specialized knowledge capacity immediately upon being transferred to the U.S. entity
- Worked in a specialized knowledge capacity at its foreign office for at least one continuous year in the three years preceding the filing of the petition
Liam was the Supply Chair Manager and has been a part of the company for over ten years. In this role, he was responsible for:
- Troubleshooting supply chain issues
- Coordinating communications between technical specialists and suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of finished components
- Evaluating suppliers
- Overseeing the logistics of parts and finished goods in compliance with regulations
- Conducting statistical forecasting
- Developing new processes to improve productivity within the supply chain team
- Restructuring purchasing and supply chain functions to maximize efficiency
Liam met the requirements for an L1B visa and understood the company’s devices and processes more than any senior leader. The company specifically chose him to lead the U.S. development because no local talent could fill this role. Liam understood all the ins and outs of the business. Furthermore, as the primary point of contact for vendor management, Liam was well-rounded to train U.S.-based employees and ensure seamless operations. Without Liam’s expertise, the company’s business plan for the U.S. expansion would have had to pause.
Verdict
Within 10 days, Liam’s L1B case was approved! This approval allowed the successful expansion into the U.S. and a breakthrough in the medical field for X-ray machinery.
